Trees Need Extra Protection Feb. - June

Oak Wilt Reminder
Oak wilt is a destructive tree disease in Central Texas. It kills thousands of trees every year. Avoid trimming Oak trees February – June every year.
This is the time of the year when the beetles that spread the disease are most active. Infection signs include leaf discoloration (yellow or bronzing), premature leaf drop and rapid decline, especially in Live Oaks and Red Oaks.
Oak Wilt also spreads through interconnected root systems. There is no cure for Oak Wilt. Prevention is the best protection so avoid pruning or wounding Oak Trees between February and June every year.
If an Oak tree is damaged some other way, immediately paint any cut on an oak tree. If you are concerned your tree(s) might be impacted, contact an oak-wilt certified arborist for evaluation.
